Where will The Best Place be to Get Married After the Coronavirus?

Where will The Best Place be to Get Married After the Coronavirus? If you answered the Florida Keys, we think you are right. Of course, we are always biased when it comes to our home town, but allow us to give you some reasonable explanations as to why we think the Florida Keys will a bigger Destination than it has been in the past to get married after the Coronavirus.

If your wedding was unfortunately cancelled or rescheduled due to the Coronavirus, you are probably like many other brides and grooms all around the Country dealing with this problem.

According to the Center for Disease Control, we are still not out of the woods yet, however, things may be looking ok as some countries like Spain and Austria are starting to slowly get back to work and reopen their businesses again.

Obviously, we are not expecting anything to happen tomorrow or anytime soon. The Country along with the rest of the World, is going to take some time to rebuild and get back to normal.

Florida Keys Weddings have always been a huge Destination Wedding Location for quite some time. In fact, the Florida Keys is one of the top 3 Destination locations in the United States per capita. Having strong group of wedding vendors and amazing Wedding Venues to choose from, only sees why this is going to be better than ever!

  • THE KEYS ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED

While Florida and other States are being impacted, the Florida Keys made the decision to close the stretch and county road in which to enter. The police are checking every single individual that enters the Florida Keys to make sure they are residents or allowed to work there. All hotels, bars, restaurants, and non essential businesses have been closed for quite some time.  The Florida Keys has some of the least known cases in all of Florida.

  • SMALL POPULATION

The Florida Keys is home to a very small population. According to Google, the population of the Florida Keys is less than 15,000 residents. I would only assume that having a small wedding in a lowly dense population, would make the Florida Keys only that much more appealing to those wanting to get married.

  • LOCATED IN THE UNITED STATES

Although the United States has the most cases, we can almost presume that we are testing more than anyone. From most of the feedback that we are hearing from current couples, they are choosing to cancel their Destination Wedding in the Caribbean and focusing on relocating to a destination like the Florida Keys.  Something about being in your own Country during a pandemic seems more comfortable than traveling to an unknown location.

  • IDEAL FOR SMALLER EVENTS

Most Weddings performed and planned at home are geared to inviting all of the friends and family! Many experts agree that social distancing is something that we might be practicing for quite some time. Therefore, leaving smaller intimate weddings being more popular. The Florida Keys’ average wedding is roughly around 40 – 60 guests. Assuming we cut those numbers in half moving forward, that is still a perfect amount for our location.

  • CLOSING STATEMENTS

These are the top 4 reasons we believe the Florida Keys  will be the best place to get married after the Coronavirus come 2021.  We are currently booking more brides and grooms for 2021 than we did last year this time. Alot of couples are choosing to switch their wedding location and sub out for our beautiful location. Whether Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, or Key West.

If you are interested in a small wedding package or even doing a small beach elopement feel free to contact us to help point you in the right direction. Keep your head up and God Bless!

Don’t worry, you are definitely not alone when questioning whether you Should You Cancel your Destination Wedding Because of Covid-19 Virus. This is obviously a question that we have been getting asked constantly and to be honest, this is something that we are all experiencing for the first time.

Unlike a natural disaster, a Hurricane for example, something that we here in Florida are somewhat used to dealing with. The Covid -19 aka Corona Virus is something that we are all experiencing world wide.

What we Know as of April 2020

The Florida Keys has been completely shut down. All Resorts, Hotels, Wedding Venues have been temporarily closed due the Covid-19 Virus. All courthouses and all governmental buildings have shut down as well.

We know that this virus is very serious. Social Distancing is being recommended and practiced all over the entire world. The current cases as of today is over 250,000 and currently looks like there is no stopping here anytime in the near future, at least by the end of this month.  With the CDC Limiting the number of people at mass gatherings, its hard to predict when we will have a traditional wedding soon.

With these recent updates, having a destination wedding, at least in April, and in the Florida Keys is most likely a no go. We would always recommend checking the Center for Disease Control (CDC) or the World Health Organization (WHO) for up to date information.

What to do moving forward

Moving forward, there are two major questions that you are probably asking, Should You Cancel your Destination Wedding Because of Covid-19 Virus or reschedule to a later date. Some common factors may help us choose on our own.

  • Wedding Date –  When was your wedding date originally scheduled? If the date is in the near future, try and understand that even your guests are most likely not going to be traveling so soon as things calm down.
  • Guest Amount –  How many guests are you expecting? If you are looking at a larger guest amount, again, that will put your guests feeling a little uneasy. Although they are your family and loved ones, large mass gatherings may still be discouraged.
  • Location –  Where is your destination wedding located? Is it Overseas, Key West, or Key Largo. Moving forward, if you had a small wedding planned for a small town, like Key Largo, I think we would be better than an international location in a highly populated or dense location.

What you should do

The Corona Virus is impacting everyone’s lives right now at the moment, and I’m sure impacting your wedding planning as well. Moving forward, deciding on whether you should cancel your wedding or reschedule should be used and thought in you and your guests best judgement and interest.

Although we have had a mix of couples both cancelling and rescheduling to a later date. We would love to have more reschedules than cancellations. Taking it day by day and see how things unfold is always a great idea while waiting for results to come in daily.

How We might be able to Help?

We are here for every couple, understanding these circumstances, here are some suggestions that we might be able to help.

If you were planning on a larger Destination Wedding or even had an All Inclusive Wedding Package booked, you can always select and choose an affordable Beach Elopement Package.

Are Elopement Packages are designed for just the two of you. If you are not wanting to travel overseas or to the Caribbean, you can still stay in the United States and get married with just the two of you.

You can also push or reschedule your wedding to a later date. We are still currently booking 2021 couples in our wedding venues and still planning their wedding.

If you are wanting more information or if you are having trouble reaching your wedding venue or wedding vendors, please fee contact us

Thank you and Stay Safe and Stay Inside for now,

Sincerely,

The Florida Keys Wedding Center

Real Wedding at Far Beach in John Pennekamp

A surprise Wedding? Yes! Maria was shocked when they showed up to Far Beach at John Pennekamp Park only to find that Adam had planned our Flamingo Package for his soon to be bride.

Adam and Maria had already filed for their marriage license, but Maria was unaware of what to expect and when to expect it. Adam worked with us planning this wedding with his closest friends and family to make sure everything went off great.

Our Ceremony Beach Packages are perfect for those with small guest amounts and don’t want to spend a fortune on just marrying the one you love. Having dinner at a local restaurant nearby is always ideal afterwards as their are plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Their wedding was at Far Beach in John Pennekamp in Key Largo. A great place for Ceremony only locations that don’t require any lodging or catering packages. This location is great for small weddings and an area that utilizes both weddings and beach activities.  See from pictures below.

Step by Step Guide On How to Change Your Last Name

This is something people often don’t think about until it’s official. This process may seem  stressful and feel overwhelming, but don’t worry, we will walk you through this step by step process.

Below is the list of the 4 major steps to How to change your last name in Florida after getting married.

Step #1 Marriage Certificate

Your First Step in changing your last name in Florida after you are married is receiving your marriage license. You can not change your last name until you have the official copy.

This is after it has been sent to Tallahassee and then sent back to you with the sealed stamp making it official. This process (which should be told by your wedding officiant) can take anywhere from 3-4 weeks.

Unfortunately there is no express delivery options available on Marriage Certificates.

At this stage you can consider a name change notification kit like the ones from Easy Name Change. Rather than make your own exhaustive checklist for all the places you need to notify then hunt for all the forms and processes, just pay $29 to get the paperwork done for you! In most cases you can just attach your marriage certificate, sign and send. BOOM! Name change sorted. You’ll still need to visit the DMV and your bank in person, so read on!

If you prefer to do your own research, compete forms and write letters then allow about 6 to 8 hours.

Step #2 Social Security

Once you receive your Florida marriage licence then you can take the certificate to your local Social Security office.

You do have two options, you can go to the office directly or you can mail in an application, but you must send your original marriage certificate and it can take weeks to get this back to you.

Your Social Security number will stay the same, there is no charge for a new social security card. You can use the Field Office Locator

Step #3 Driver License Office

Once you have completed steps 1 and 2. Your next step is to visit the department of motor vehicles (DMV) and provide them with these forms.

Again, this must be done in person and not available online.

Forms needed for Name Change for the DMV

  • Your Florida driver license or ID card.
  • Proof of your U.S. citizenship or legal presence, such as your:
    • Valid U.S. passport.
    • Birth certificate (original or certified copy).
    • Certificate of naturalization N-550 or N-570.
  • Proof of your current name, such as your:
    • Marriage certificate.
    • Divorce decree.
    • Court order.
  • Proof of Social Security number (SSN), such as your:
    • Social Security card.
    • W-2 form.
    • Ineligibility letter from the SSA and 1 document from the GatherGoGet list.
  • Proof of your Florida residency (2 documents), such as a recent:
    • Utility bill.
    • Bank statement.
    • School record or transcript.
  • Payment for the $25 fee

While you’re at the DMV, also change your name on your vehicle title and registration as well as your voter registration records.

Step #4 Bank Account

If you are opening a joint account, then you both will need to be there for this one, make sure to bring your new ID, Social Card and Marriage certificate.

Most banks need you to visit in person even if you’re only changing names on your existing account.

Don’t forget to order new checks, new debit cards.

Depending on your bank there might be some additional fees for this process.

The Big Steps Should Now be Taken Care Of

Step #5 The Rest

Some Other Name Change Steps You Shouldn't Overlook

Once you have taken care of the bigger steps in How to change your last name in Florida after getting married listed above, some items that you should also update as soon as possible are:

Please Note: The only way to know the process for these companies is to contact them and ask what their name change procedure is. Usually it’s one of 4 ways; send in a letters, complete and send in their special form, send an email or log into your account online. Allow about 20 minutes per company to get this completed.

  • Credit card companies

  • Electric and other utility companies

  • Employers/payroll

  • Post office (if your address has changed too)

  • Schools and alumni associations

  • Mortgage or Landlord office

  • Insurance companies (auto, home, life)

  • Travel Rewards

  • Loyalty Clubs

  • Passport

  • Vehicle Title

  • Phone & Television

  • Online Accounts (Paypal, Ebay, Netflix, Etc.. )

You Can Download the handy checklist here provided by our good friends at Easy Name Change.

Life Advice:

We know that giving away your last name may be a big thing. You have literally had your name since birth! You might encounter some mixed feelings and emotions about this process.

Please know that you two are now one. Your family has started since the moment you said “I Do” and these feeling will quickly fade away!

7 Reasons to bring your pet to a Destination Wedding

Here are 7 Reasons We think you should not only bring your pet to your Destination Wedding, but also incorporating them as well.

If you are planning on having a Destination Wedding , and you are debating whether or not you should bring your pet, then let us help you!  The Florida Keys is Rapidly becoming a Pet Friendly Destination, and We Love It!

1.) Pets Are A Not A Burden

There was once a time where pets could be considered a burden. To travel with, extra fees, cleaning fees, etc.. Now more than ever, pets are considered as family and most likely, your Wedding Venue feels the same way.

We are seeing alot of Destination Wedding Venues not only make it available to bring your pet, but also make it comfortable as well.

2.) You Can Include your Pet to be in the Wedding

We know that this is a topic gone over again and again, and there are countless ways to incorporate your pet into your wedding

What has been trending lately is seeing cute and friendly photos of pets being the ring bearer, a groomsmen, an usher and other ideas. That is not something new, however, those weddings may have been at a local venue.

A Destination Wedding can be completely different, but as mentioned above, Wedding Venues are striving to make it easier now, more than ever.

3.) A Destination Wedding is Fun!

What better time to bring your furry best friend to enjoy some of the best nature and scenery than right here in the Florida Keys!

A Destination Wedding means that you are probably going to be here for more than just one day. Maybe an entire weekend or some Beach Houses rent for an entire week!

Your pet will have the opportunity to swim in the ocean, ride on a paddle board, or maybe a sunset boat ride!

4.) Pets are Family

If you plan on inviting your family members to your wedding, then there is no reason we shouldn’t take the time and plan to bring one of our own closest relatives.

Your Pet is only around for a short time compared to us. They will love every moment being spent with you on your destination wedding.

5.) You can Bring your pet and not put them in the wedding

If you are concerned that you  bringing your pet means you automatically have to include them into your wedding. Think again.

Some of you may not want to include your pet into your wedding, and that is ok! It’s your wedding and you should be happy.

There are great and numerous Pet Sitting Services, especially right here in the Florida Keys! If you want to relax and not worry about barking during your ceremony or you are having fireworks, consider a pet sitter for the night of the wedding.

6.) Making Memories

Regardless if you choose to include your pet into the wedding, there is a chance that you might miss your loved one after a couple of days!

If your pet won’t be there the day of the wedding, there are still great ways to have them represented while not being there.

7.) Your Guests Will Love It

Whether there are kids, older guests, friends, and family. Your guests will enjoy having your pet around.

Again, This is a Destination Wedding. Laid back beach vibes playing frisbee in knee high water is something to be remembered.

Your guests will most likely enjoy having your pet around and so will us locals as well!
