Barefoot & Beautiful - Real Wedding

Congratulations to Bradley and Radwa for their beautiful Florida Keys Wedding that we performed at Playa Largo Resort in Key Largo, FL.

Brad and Radwa really wanted something romantic and easy. They wanted to have a wedding where they just showed up and everything was done for them. We helped Brad and Radwa from getting their marriage license, to planning their beach elopement right here in Key Largo.

While Corona Virus concerns still brewed, non pun intended, the Resort was lively and the waters were beautiful. Everyone seemed to have smiles on their faces and made for a fun day in the sand.

Our Mangrove Package is a great and affordable Elopement Package that is one of our most popular packages. The feel is tropical and beachy without breaking your budget.

Thank you Bradley and Radwa, congratulations on your wedding here in the Florida Keys! Below are just a couple pictures of their event.

Real Hightide Package at Smathers Beach in Key West, Florida!

Kalen and Ashley got married in the Beautiful Island of Key West at Smathers Beach

If you ever wondered what Smathers Beach is like to have a wedding, check out our article on Everything you need to know about getting married in Smathers Beach

Of all the weddings and events that we have been a part of, this wedding that we did in Key West, Florida will always be in our hearts forever. Thank you Kalen and Ashley for making this day memorable for both of us.

This was the first wedding that was done since the reopening of the Florida Keys.

On March 15th, 2020, the Florida Keys has been remained closed to any and all outside visitors and on May 18th, 2020 they officially announced that the Florida Keys would be reopening to visitors starting on June 1st

What this means is that when this happened, we didn’t  perform, done, seen, participated, or have any events in those 3 months.

Kalen and Ashley were also concerned that the Florida Keys would be closed during the time of their wedding but continued to have hope that it would be open and ready for their small ceremony elopement package that they reserved.

Thankfully, All of the stars aligned and we were able to perform a beautiful and memorable ceremony using our Florida Keys Elopement Package on the shores of Key West, FL.

Our Hightide Elopement Package, Which is what Kalen and Ashley reserved is only $899 and includes an officiant, photographer, Bridal Bouquet, Bamboo Arbor with flowers and draping, champagne, and more.

Below are their wedding photos and thank you again Kalen and Ashley! We wish you the best of luck!

The Florida Keys Will Open on June 1st, 2020

As you may or may not have heard, the Florida Keys is set to reopen to visitors on June 1st, 2020.

The Florida Keys has been closed to outside residents since March of this year. They have roadblocks in place from the main Highway (US1) and Cardsound road. The only two roads to get into the Florida Keys.

The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners has released, in a facebook message, that the Florida Keys will begin to allow outside visitors and reopen on June 1st, 2020.

They plan to remove both roadblocks and allow for outside guests to commute into the County as well as open up hotels for lodging.

If you or someone you know that was planning on having a wedding but nervous that you may have had to cancel or reschedule your wedding due to the Coronavirus, then this should be some great news.

What this means moving forward?

Moving Forward, we expect that the Florida Keys will still be operating at safe cautions. Just because they are beginning to open, does not mean that Large Weddings, events, or gatherings will be permissible in the near future.

Since the County of Monroe is one of the lowest cases of having known Coronavirus, we expect that the Florida Keys will be booming with Weddings for the 2021 Season!

If you are planning a Destination Wedding in the Florida Keys, We suggest following the recommendations of the CDC and checking with the Governor of Florida to see the current phases that are taking place.

As of right now, we are accepting reservations for small weddings 10 and under for the month of June and July and still waiting anxiously to see how things continue to move forward. We expect to see 50 guests in the August months to over 75 in the Fall however, things to could adjust at any given time.

All hotels will need to coordinate with the County and Government Officials to ensure the property safety precautions. Hotels will need to operate at just 50% capacity. Hotels, campgrounds, vacation rentals and similar businesses will be required to implement sanitation procedures as well.

A Big Question that seems to be getting asked lately and is definitely a gray area, is Should a Wedding Deposit be refundable or not? We are starting to get alot of emails and phone calls of Brides and Grooms asking or telling us that other vendors are not refunding their deposits or getting asked from vendors our take on what to do in this situation.

If you or someone you know, has had the unfortunate decision of cancelling your wedding due to the Covid-19 virus than I’m sure this is something that you are starting to deal with. Being in the Florida Keys, this is something that is not new as we have to deal with natural disasters every few years.

What is a Deposit?

A Deposit can actually be described as a first installment on the purchase of something or as a pledge for a contract, the balance being payable later. Most lawyers will constitute that a deposit is a binding contract agreement between two parties of the services provided. In this one instance,  a couple not liking their wedding invitations and asking for their deposit back, but was denied, would legally hold up in court.

For Wedding Vendors, a deposit is going to secure that date for you. That the services that the vendor provides will be utilized on the date of your event.  Meaning that the wedding vendor will not be taking or accepting any other events during that day. There are some exceptions like vendors who can produce for multiple events, like a florist or a baker. A DJ or a photographer however, will not be able to be in two places at one time.

Types of Deposits.

There are many types of deposits that we all experience on a day to day basis and all of them ranging from:

  • Bank Deposits
  • Lease Deposits For a Condo
  • Contractors
  • Carpenters
  • Hotels and Lodging
  • Automotive

and of course, Vendor deposits such as wedding venues and vendors.  We are used to dealing with deposits on a daily basis and as you can see, alot of these deposits can be refundable or non refundable. With items like hotels and lodging, we are used to refundable deposits, with items like carpenters and contractors, most times deposits are non refundable.

Some deposits for your wedding vendors also vary greatly in price. A Wedding Venue may charge a larger deposit like $5,000 where an officiant may just charge like $100 to secure your dates.

Why a Vendor may refuse to refund your deposit.

Not all Wedding Vendors are the same. Let’s start there. Some vendors have no problem refunding a deposit and some have a strict policy of no refunds on your deposit. Some vendors also allow for a transferable deposit to a new date and/or location.

As discussed earlier, Once you place a deposit on a wedding vendor, that vendor no longer can accept other events during that day. So if you place the deposit, that vendor now has to refuse all other bookings for that date.

So if a vendor is now rejecting all other inquiries for that date, that vendor is going to have a harder time refunding you a deposit, especially if you are closer to your wedding date than farther away.

Another reasons that a vendor may not refund a deposit is that they have already started working on your event. A DJ or a planner usually starts working the moment they have received your deposit or shortly after.

Another reason as discussed earlier, could be the price of the deposit and the volume of deposits. Hotels do bookings every day, and all the time. Most hotels require a one night deposit and its easier to refund because they know that the rooms are going to get filled up. A contractor may do one or two projects every couple of months.

The same goes true for most wedding venues and vendors. Usually they are doing one to maybe 2 weddings per week. The volume isn’t there to justify refunding deposits because they aren’t getting daily bookings.

The size of the deposit could be a pending factor as well. If the deposit is larger, expect it to be non refundable. Imagine a photographer taking a $1,000 deposit then, all of a sudden, have 20 cancellations. Well, that would add up to alot of money and take a devastating toll on their business.

Should I as a vendor do non refundable deposits?

As mentioned previously, not all vendors are the same and it can be a gray area. Some Vendors we know have their wedding deposits in escrow until the month of the event, some vendors take larger deposits and do not offer refunds, and some vendors take smaller deposits and can afford to shell back out wedding deposits if needed.

Regardless of your procedure and how you operate, you should be 3,000% transparent and let the couple know during the contract/deposit time frame what your policy is.

Some couples may not respect your policy and some couples will be more understanding, either way, the more that you are open and communicate, the more they will understand.

What Should I do if a Wedding Vendor doesn't allow nonrefundable deposits?

If you are dealing with a wedding vendor that doesn’t offer refundable deposits, I wouldn’t get too discouraged by any means. I would simply look at taking the necessary precautions like the rest of your event.  A great thing you can look into is Wedding Insurance.

Again, all vendors are different and all operate in different ways, I don’t think there is a wrong or right on this question, I simply think letting your client know your policy is always the best procedure.

So as the Title Says, The Board of County Commissioners for Monroe County and the Florida Keys, has stated that the Florida Keys will be  Closed Until June 1st.

If you are unaware, the Florida Keys is  currently upholding a mandatory checkpoint on both roads, Cardsound and US1. All visitors must present a photo ID or proof of residency to enter.

Being that we are one of the very few Counties in the Country to have a checkpoint to allow access, it is no surprise that our County Commissioners decided to keep the Florida Keys closed until June 1st.

What Does This Mean for your Wedding Plans?

If you are one of many who decided to reschedule or cancel your wedding in the Florida Keys due to the Covid – 19 virus, then I doubt this is impacting you since you have most likely already decided to switch plans around.  Although we did have around 5 couples who had to, once again, push back their Wedding Date that was scheduled for May.

As of right now, I wouldn’t bank on having a Wedding in the Florida Keys for May or June. We have to think that the County is going to have to reopen at some point however. Alot of people are speculating that June will bring in a “Soft Opening” and start opening up local businesses before allowing outside residents to come in.

Moving Forward and the Foreseeable Future

As of right now, nobody should be booking or accepting bookings for May or June. We are taking bookings for July and the Summer Months but only for our Elopement Packages.

We are going to speculate that “Social Distancing” is probably going to remain for the most part of the year and that we will continue to do very small wedding packages for the Fall.

Contact is Key! Since we are all stepping into the same direction of the unknown, we truly don’t know what the future holds. The best thing is to remain calm and continue to follow the updates of what the County is allowing.
